Changing the fuel changes more than the engine

Using LPG as fuel creates a critical interface between cargo storage, fuel conditioning and propulsion. The fuel has to be drawn from storage, conditioned to the pressure and temperature the engine needs, and supplied continuously as load and conditions change, all while the cargo handling system keeps doing its own job safely.

Design cargo and fuel systems independently and you create extra interfaces between equipment, control philosophies, suppliers and responsibilities. The challenge is not simply getting LPG to the engine. It’s making cargo, fuel, and propulsion work together reliably.

Engineer cargo and fuel as one system

ecoFGSS® applies Babcock LGE’s gas-handling engineering to the complete route from LPG storage to the engine interface. When the cargo handling system and fuel gas supply system come from one source, the architecture can share design philosophy and common equipment, rather than reconciling two independently designed packages later.

LPG carriers already carry LPG at scale. ecoFGSS® lets that cargo be used as propulsion fuel instead of relying solely on conventional oil-based marine fuels. Against those fuels, LPG can materially reduce sulphur oxide and particulate emissions and can lower tank-to-wake CO₂ intensity, with the precise benefit depending on LPG composition, engine efficiency, pilot-fuel use and operating profile.
