Babcock LGE has secured the first contract awards for the integration of its innovative ecoAPEX® technology, marking another significant milestone following the product’s launch and Approval in Principle from Lloyd’s Register at Gastech in Bangkok.
The award, from an East-Asian shipyard on behalf of shipowner Thenamaris LNG, covers the Cargo Handling and Fuel Gas Supply Systems for three 90,000m³ Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs).
ecoAPEX® is designed to deliver significant operational and environmental benefits for shipowners, with full deployment offering up to a 33% improvement in reliquefaction efficiency, around 25% less energy required for reliquefaction, and a 14% reduction in loading and cooldown times across LPG, ammonia and ethane carriers.
Claire Gardiner, Director of Growth for Babcock LGE, said: “We are delighted and honoured that our long-standing customer, shipowner Thenamaris LNG, has recognised the value that ecoAPEX® technology will bring to the through-life operations of these vessels.
“To have launched the technology, received Approval in Principle, and secured our first orders within such a short period is testament to both the quality of the innovation and the dedication, skill and close collaboration of the Babcock LGE team with our customers.
“This innovative new technology firmly positions Babcock LGE at the forefront of the market, supporting shipowners to improve operational efficiency while delivering meaningful environmental benefits.”
In a further boost to its order book, Babcock LGE has also secured contracts for six of its ecoSMRT® Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) reliquefaction systems, each with a capacity of 1.9 tonnes per hour.
Awarded by an East-Asian shipyard for a Middle East shipowner, the contracts mark the first installation of Babcock LGE’s 1.9 tonnes per hour ecoSMRT® system at the shipyard, as well as the shipowner’s first order of the technology.
The latest contract wins reinforce Babcock LGE’s position as a leading provider of advanced cargo handling, fuel gas supply and reliquefaction technologies, supporting customers worldwide to improve vessel efficiency, performance and sustainability.
